Universal Enterprise Data Connectivity with FireDAC, Webinar and Whitepaper by Cary Jensen

RAD in Action Webinar:
Universal Enterprise Data Connectivity with FireDAC
Presented by Cary Jensen

FireDAC is the ultimate multi-device data access library. Enterprise data access can be challenging. While products like dbExpress have solved many of these problems, what is needed is a data access engine that can deal with the rapidly changing world of IT. Multiple devices, operating systems, and form factors create a plethora of touch points. FireDAC's high performance, unified API and native driver support are the answer.

In this webinar, we will show developers how FireDAC can be used in a simple application. (And if you are only interested in Windows with VCL, you'll see how you can access more databases better and faster.) Then, we'll take things up to the next level by moving our simple app to multiple device form factors, and scale it from a single backend to multiple clients. Both existing users of FireDAC as well as new users will find the information in this webinar useful and accessible.

LiveBindings, first introduced in RAD Studio XE2, is a mechanism for updating the properties of an object based on an expression. LiveBindings represents a significant new mechanism for creating associations between objects, adding capabilities not previously found in RAD Studio.

LiveBindings is available to every type of application supported by RAD Studio XE2, both Delphi and C++ languages, both VCL and FireMonkey component libraries, and every deployment platform, from Windows to Mac OS to iOS.

This white paper is designed to familiarize you with LiveBindings. Here you will learn how to link controls in both VCL (visual component library) and FireMonkey applications using LiveBindings. I also examine the role of the expression engine, which will include a look at expressions and scopes. to link controls in both VCL (visual component library) and FireMonkey applications using LiveBindings. Webinar and Whitepaper: Delphi Legacy Applications to Unicode-Enabled Delphi 2010

Embarcadero Webinar : Join Delphi Expert Cary Jensen...
Visit the Embarcadero site to watch this Webinar.

Delphi 2009 and Delphi 2010 introduced significant changes to the basic string classes in order to support Unicode. (These same changes apply to Delphi XE and Delphi XE2.) Even if you never plan on supporting multiple languages in your applications, these changes have important implications for how you work with strings, especially in those applications originally created using an older version of Delphi.

Now, Cary Jensen has worked with more than 20 Delphi developers around the world – including noted authors, leading third-party vendors, and front line developers – to learn how they approached their Unicode conversions, what challenges they faced, and what solutions they employed.

Whitepaper: Delphi Unicode Migration for Mere Mortals

Delphi Unicode Migration for Mere Mortals: Stories and Advice from the Front Lines, Cary Jensen

Abstract: There are a lot of different ways that RAD Studio's Unicode support can affect your existing applications. And in order to help RAD Studio developers migrate their existing applications, we reached out to those in the greater developer community who have made the switch, asking for their advice, techniques, and tools that helped them with their Unicode migrations. This white paper is the result.

This white paper includes both a technical overview of how RAD Studio implements Unicode support, as well an exploration of various parts of your applications that may be affected by these changes. Advice, code samples, and general observations regarding Unicode migration from some of the top names in the RAD Studio community are included.
